Casual, comfy and chic – meet the espadrille

With a history dating back 4,000 years, the espadrille, once the de rigeur footwear among peasants and rural workers, is as popular today as ever. Originally discovered in the Pyrenees on the Spanish and French borders, the espadrille was worn by both sexes.

Originally crafted from sparto grass, an indigenous European plant also used in baskets and rope, today’s espadrilles are primarily made from jute due to cost and material availability. With a flat sole, and easy to slip on style, it’s become the show of the summer.

Available from an array of designers, in a plethora of styles, colors and patterns, espadrilles are casual but also add a jolt of character to any warm weather look. Best of all, they’re light and comfortable on your feet.

Make sure to add a pair to your summer wardrobe. Here are some of our favorites.
